The sky, mid-afternoon, a beautiful canvas graced with sky blues and pure milky whites. The blue in the depths beyond and the smooth, rounded, sugary sweet clouds in the foreground; July evenings were made to be like this. Stained white wooden porches, green plastic lawn and garden chairs and a yellow butterfly dancing above the steamy urban pavement with an invisible partner to a cool made up song. I have a date with my long lost high school best friend Chimea. How about a catch up meeting accompanied with some milk shake or something?
Sitting on the porch waiting for Chimea, a chocolate lady with damply tangled, curly shiny, artfully messy and magnificently thick African hair, arrives, frolicking, bursting with energy like a quarter machine bouncy ball. Basking in the delicious intoxicating sunlight, this is one day in the unusually cold Nairobi July that my toes are not numb from wearing sandals.
"BFFFF๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ whatsaaaap!!!" Chimea shouts on arrival. We are all excited on seeing each other after completing school. "How is everything......where did nanii go to?....so and so was married.....we lost this classmate๐....bla bla" We had a profound moment with each other.
Suddenly Chimea's phone rings, "Hey beb, niambie", Chimea converses with the boyfriend and apparently she is not happy with him๐. The poor guy was to take some duvet to the dry cleaner, unfortunately, he dry cleaned the wrong duvet and Chimea is so mad until I had to come in.
"First of all Bff, you should appreciate the fact that he was willing and able to do that for you! BFF, how many boyfriends out here can do that for their girlfriends? He is trying๐" Chimea was hard on me as well.
"BFF, one day my dad sat down my sister and had a deep conversation. She had not done so well in the previous exams and of course she was defensive on the effort she made. However, the effort did not reflect in the end results. My dad explicitly stated that the world doesn't care the hell you went through, they care the end result. You fell along the way? You were frustrated? well, sorry but... No one cares the effort you put, we want to see the end results. What is the end product? After you deliver the end results, that is when everyone wants to know your journey, otherwise no one cares of your struggles!!"
Still I sided with the boyshaod but grabbed the lesson. The world wants to see the final results, then they will be concerned about your journey.
Be objective! Focus! Press towards the goal
Phillipians 3:14 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.
